Clifftop Phillip Island Wedding – Clint & Emma

Clint and Emma held their Clifftop Phillip Island Wedding on Saturday 4th March 2017.  Below is a little about the couple, how they met and their future plans together:

When and how did you meet? And what were your first thoughts?
First met when Emma was working at Clint’s son, William’s, school. Emma gave Clint her number to offer help as a babysitter as Will had mentioned to her that Clint was working a lot. Clint rang and asked Emma to come to the Melbourne Show with him and the kids, as he couldn’t leave Ella alone while he took Will on rides etc. They had a great day together, thinking each other was really fun but thought nothing more due to the age gap. Over the next couple of weeks Clint invited Emma to more and more things and they quickly realized that there was something there.

When and how did the proposal take place and how did you feel?
Clint proposed to Emma at Torquay.  He had spent months having the ring made and then Emma fell pregnant so he postponed the proposal until their planned trip to Torquay.  It was their first year travelling there to watch the Bells Beach RipCurl Pro. Clint asked Emma to go for a walk on the beach at sunset but as Emma was 4 months pregnant with Lakey and very sick, she didn’t feel like a walk and had a whinge about it. Clint was nearly not going to worry about it but Emma got up and said ‘alright, let’s go then’ at the last minute. Clint was very romantic about it and Emma cried with happiness. It was such a beautiful night and they spent all weekend feeling loved up and excited for all the things to come.

Where are you going on your honeymoon?
New Zealand, touring the Island’s in a Camper Van to get the most out of all the sights to see.

What are your future plans together (e.g. buying a house/starting a family)
Clint and Emma have already bought a house together and have started a family. They have planned to start the renovation on their house this year, build Emma’s career and expand the family business. There are also the plans to head away on their honeymoon and spend time with each other and the kids. Expanding the family is also a future plan depending on how long the renovation takes!

Where is your ceremony and reception being held and why did you choose these venues?
The reception and ceremony were held at Clifftop on the cliffs of Smith Beach at Phillip Island. It was exactly what Clint and Emma wanted without realizing it. As soon as they walked in they couldn’t picture anywhere else to get married.

What does your wedding dress look like? Please give a detailed description and also include any accessories including jewellery and shoes.
The wedding dress is a strapless, ivory, A-Line gown with a lace overlay, corset/lace up back and train. Emma wore no jewellery and sandals so she would be as comfortable as possible for the big day!

Do you have a Theme or style to your wedding? And if so, what is it?
No theme or style. The venue and view of the ocean was enough! Everything else would have been over the top and would have taken away from the day itself. So just the view of the ocean as the theme and whatever Clifftop normally used for weddings as the style.

Hair & Makeup – please describe what your hair and makeup is like and who the suppliers are.
Clint and Emma wanted to use all local suppliers so Emma and The Bridal Party all had their makeup and hair done at Beachside Hair and Beauty in San Remo. Everything was low key, just curled hair and Australian native flower crowns and minimal, natural make up.

Who is the person conducting your service? (celebrant, minister, priest etc).
Pam Lewis, of Phillip Island was used as the celebrant as she came highly recommended.

Florist – what are your flowers like & who is the supplier?
Flowers of Phillip Island was used for the flowers. All flowers were a of a slightly deconstructed look made with all Australian Natives.

Wedding Favours & Cake – what are they like and who is the supplier?
The wedding favours were hand-potted succulents grown by Clint and Emma from cuttings and potted into little pots found from local op-shops.

The cake was made by Emma’s Aunt who is a professional cake maker. It was pale blue with a native flower wreath placed on the front that was similar to the Bridal Party’s flower crowns. It was three tiers, Chocolate Mud on the bottom, Red Velvet in the middle and Banana on top. Yum!

Transport – what mode of transport did you choose and who was the supplier?
Clint and Emma stayed at Clifftop all weekend, so no transport was needed!

Food & Drink – what are they like and who is the supplier if not venue?
Prior’s Catering provided the food, which was a roaming cocktail affair. Mini burgers, calamari, duck crepes, arancini balls etc. Churro’s with chocolate sauce were the dessert as well as the bottom layer of the cake. The drinks were all recommended by Clifftop, including a local beer from the Island.

Is there any other supplier you would specifically like to mention:
Everyone at Clifftop were amazing! It was the most perfect place to get married! We will be going there every year for our anniversary!

island bay ranch wedding – Nathan & Emma

Nathan & Emma’s island bay ranch wedding was held on 18th February 2017.  We like to get to know our brides and grooms a little better by asking them a few questions.  Here are Emma & Nathan’s answers about how they met, their wedding day and their planned future together.

Q. When and how did you meet? And what were your first thoughts?
A. We first met, unofficially, at the Westernport Hotel San Remo in November 2011. Emma was working behind the bar and Nathan was a regular patron. Neither of us had spoken a word to each other this night, although our interest in each other had not gone unnoticed

Q. When and how did the proposal take place and how did you feel?
A. Nathan proposed in June 2015 when we were holidaying through Africa. On our way there we first stopped over in Mauritius for 2 weeks. Our first week was spent staying with family, from Emma’s side, and our second week we made our way up North to stay in a beautiful resort on Pereybere beach. During one of our nights there Nathan had booked for us to dine on the resorts private beach with music, a bonfire and beautiful local cuisine. We ate until we could barely breathe before taking a stroll down the beach where Nathan, very shakily, dropped to one knee.

Q. Where are you going on your honeymoon?
A. We have booked our honeymoon in Hawaii. We start our trip up on the North coast, at Turtle Bay before relaxing in Maui for a few nights and ending our trip in Waikiki. We have a few places in mind to visit but hope to spend most of our time relaxing and enjoying some much needed time off

Q. What are your future plans together (e.g. buying a house/starting a family)
A. We are planning to finish renovating our home in Cape Paterson before either buying another investment home or settling into our current home for a few more years. We have enjoyed our journey with our current property and are very proud of what we have achieved together so far. Our hope is to continue saving so we can eventually build our dream home, with a big backyard for our fur babies to run around and plenty of room to raise a family.

Q. Where is your ceremony and reception being held and why did you choose these venues?
A. We chose to hold our ceremony and reception at Island Bay Ranch, as it suited what we were both looking for. Nathan always hoped for a venue with water views and Emma was after an open and natural setting amongst the countryside. We both fell in love with our venue from the moment we pulled into the carpark, through to the beautiful native gardens and the backdrop of surrounding water and rolling countryside. We could see a lot of potential at our venue and knew it wouldn’t take a lot of decoration to provide the perfect setting for our wedding

Q. What does your wedding dress look like? Please give a detailed description and also include any accessories including jewellery and shoes.
A. Emma will be wearing a full length ivory gown which is well fitted from the bust to below the waist and begins to flare out from above the knees. It is covered in an intricate lace pattern with off the shoulder lace sleeves. The gown shows a nice backless design with a long, elegant lace train. She will be wearing a veil for the ceremony, Chrysalini pearl earrings and is opting for comfort with her shoes, having purchased white peep toe wedges.

Q. Do you have a Theme or style to your wedding? And if so, what is it?
A. We were after a vintage/rustic theme, trying to show off our venue in its natural beauty.

Q. Hair & Makeup – please describe what your hair and makeup is like and who the suppliers are.
A. Jess Purtle (McCurdy) will be doing all of the girls make up. Keeping it very simple and true to ourselves. Hair will be styled by Emma Jean event hair. I have chosen a high bun for myself and more intricate, loose flowing buns for my bridesmaids

Q. Who is the person conducting your service? (celebrant, minister, priest etc).
A. Our chosen celebrant, Carmel Monaghan, was a very easy choice for Nathan and myself. Nathan has known Carmel for 15 years, after growing up next door to her and her husband in Cape Paterson. She is a very dear friend to the Jones family, known by mum mum through the local community and very easy to converse with and be ourselves. We felt very comfortable having Carmel conduct our service and were so pleased with her level of professionalism alongside the beautiful ceremony she had prepared for us

Q. Florist – what are your flowers like & who is the supplier?
A. The bridal bouquet, bridesmaids flowers and arbor floral arrangements had all been prepared by Emma at Big Twig Florist. The bridal bouquet is made up of soft pink, peach and white roses, baby’s breath and native greenery. The bridesmaids and arbor arrangement are created with white roses and baby’s breath. Nathan’s brothers partner, Elise, has also provided us with dozens of native arrangements which she had cleverly crafted on her own the afternoon before our wedding

Q. Wedding Favours & Cake – what are they like and who is the supplier?
A. We chose to do a lolly buffet for our wedding favours and had our family friend, Trevor Foon, personalise some thank you cards for us. Nathan’s parents had also sneakily organised some personalised stubby holders for our guests and our wedding cake was carefully hand crafted by the brides mum, Terra Plumb. We had a 4 tier wedding cake with a chocolate layer, coconut cake and 2 fruit cakes. 2 of the cakes had a floral like design at the base, which was hand made with icing as well as 30 intricately made roses of white, peach and pink, were used to tie in with the bridal bouquet and add a touch of colour to our cake.

Q. Transport – what mode of transport did you choose and who was the supplier?
A. Seeing as we stayed at the venue for the weekend, the bridal party were already at the venue for the beginning of the ceremony and Emma and her dad Steve arrived via the helicopter service which was located across from Churchill Road. Neither of us had been in a helicopter before, so it was nice being able to admire the breathtaking water views before circling our venue from above, and seeing all of our guests eagerly waiting and staring from below, before we descended

Q. Food & Drink – what are they like and who is the supplier if not venue?
A. Our bar will be run by friends of ours with a selection of beer, wine, punch and slushies. We will also have a variety of hot and cold tapas being run around for starters. For our mains we have hired Paella Pan to cook a traditional paella and risotto for our guests as well as utilising our local butcher Greame Finlay, who will slow roast lamb and pork to go alongside a large variety of salads. For dessert we have a selection of wedding cake, crème caramel, sticky date puddings, pavlova and cheesecake.

Q. Is there any other supplier you would specifically like to mention:
A. We would like to say a special thank you to Maria from Marias bridal for all her patience and effort put into the alterations of my bridal gown.  Our talented musician Darxy Fox for entertaining us into the late ours of the night and we would also like to further thank Max Combridge for his long hours in capturing video footage of our day and Lucas, our photographer, for doing an outstanding job at putting up with such a large bridal party and making our photo session something very comfortable, natural and enjoyable for us all.  We felt very relaxed and at ease around Lucas and Max and are so thankful for all of the hours they both put in to capture our special day.

  • Q. When and how did the proposal take place and how did you feel?
    A. The proposal took place in Apollo bay on the 10th of April 2015. And i stood up and turned around and he was on one knee with a ring box in hand! he asked me to marry him and I said yes immediately about a hundred times!

After saying a couple of nights at our favorite place to stay in Apollo Bay – Chris’ Beacon Point James ran off at breaky to grab something from the room and came back with another surprise which when i opened i could not believe! It was plane tickets to Queensland! He had planned it all and got the time off work for me from my boss and we headed off to the airport after breaky and spend the next five days celebrating in the sun on the gold coast!

Wedding Clifftop Phillip Island – Dan & Heather

Dan & Heather’s wedding at Clifftop Phillip Island was held on 25th November 2016.  So we can get to know our couples better we like to ask them a few questions.  Here is a bit more about Dan & Heather in there own words:
Q. When and how did you meet? And what were your first thoughts?
A. We met in 2003, when I was a random at a party at his house. Steve, a mutual friend, introduced us. I thought he was cute, but had a boyfriend at the time. We hit it off throughout the night, but it wasn’t until Schoolies in 2004 that things started to take off. Dan asked the question, “Will you go out with me?” at the smallest pier in San Remo, which later became known as our ‘Fishy Little Pier’.
Q. When and how did the proposal take place and how did you feel?A. For our 10 year anniversary, Dan took me back down to the island for a weekend getaway. He was going to pop the question that weekend, but the car broke down and we had to be rescued by my mum, who drove all the way from Melbourne to pick us up.

Two days later, when we went to pick up the car from the mechanic, we went back to our fishy little pier, where Dan got down on one knee, with the sun setting in the background.

From there, we have 2 versions of events. Dan seems to recall me saying, “yes, yes, yes” a lot, whereas I recall saying, “Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god” until he kindly mentioned, “You haven’t given me an answer yet!”

Obviously, I said ‘yes’!

Dan had planned this very well, because after a few minutes, I realised we now have 2 cars and would have to drive home separately! Dan said that this was so I could make all of my phone calls (and he wouldn’t have to listen!)

This is exactly what happened. I don’t remember much of the trip home, following slowly behind Dan, as I made several incredibly excited phone calls, to family and friends!

Q. Where are you going on your honeymoon?
A. I’m so excited to share in Dan’s first overseas trip! His brand new passport will be getting a work out!

It starts off with a week in Los Angeles, followed by a week in my favourite place, New York! From there, we will be heading over to Iceland for 8 days, 6 of those days will be spent on a Northern Lights tour.
Next, we head to Finland for one night in Helsinki, before flying up to Lapland to spend a night in a hotel made from ice and one night in a glass top igloo!

Q. What are your future plans together (e.g. buying a house/starting a family)
A. We’ve been living together for the last 3 years and already have everything we need, including our fur baby, Indi! Next on the agenda would be some rugrats!
Q. Where is your ceremony and reception being held and why did you choose these venues?
A. Our reception and ceremony are both being held at the amazing Clifftop Boutique Accommodation!
We found a few venues down on the island, but fell in love with Clifftop from the moment we walked in. Rachel was so amazing, I can’t imagine having been married anywhere else!
Q. What does your wedding dress look like? Please give a detailed description and also include any accessories including jewellery and shoes.
A. My dress is a Jack Sullivan couture wedding gown from Fairytales Bridal in Nunawading. It’s ivory coloured with plenty of beading, lace and a bit of bling throughout! The back is an open V, which is amazing.
Earrings were from South Gippsland Jewellers in Cranbourne and are a light pink pearl drop earring. The bracelet is a silver tennis bracelet from Goldmark.
My headpiece is from the wonderful Roman and French. https://romanandfrench.com/
Shoes were a bargain buy from Myer, just silver flats from Nine West.
Q. Do you have a Theme or style to your wedding? And if so, what is it?
A. We kind of opted for a modern rustic theme, with a sunset colour scheme. There were plenty of DIY moments and a bit of creativeness!

Q. Wedding Favours & Cake – what are they like and who is the supplier?
A. Our wedding favours are tests tubes filled with M&Ms, sitting in a board made by my Opa. He painstakingly drilled 100 holes in it for them to sit. I decorated it with a bit of DIY love! The supplier was Custom Favours, who did a great job! https://www.customfavours.com.au/ Our cake was done by Dan’s very talented cousin, Bec. It’s a chocolate mud cake, with white buttercream frosting. Flowers hanging off the side are also by Flowers For Ever After. Our bunting was personalised on Etsy, all the way from the Ukraine!
Q. Transport – what mode of transport did you choose and who was the supplier?
A. We’re getting ready at the venue, so didn’t need any cars. To get to and from our photo locations, my sister’s partner, James was our awesome chauffeur!
Q. Food & Drink – what are they like and who is the supplier if not venue?
A. It’s a cocktail style reception with delicious finger food from Catering By Chefs. http://www.cateringbychefs.com.au/
Q. Is there any other supplier you would specifically like to mention:
A. Thank you to Rachel from Clifftop for going above and beyond with absolutely everything! She has been amazing!
Also, thank you Lucas for your incredible photography. You have been very easy to work with and talk to throughout this whole process!

Trenavin Chapel Wedding – James & Tahlia

James and Tahlia’s Trenavin Chapel wedding located on Phillip Island.  Below are some words from our bride and groom about their wedding, how they met and their future together.

Q. When and how did you meet? And what were your first thoughts?
A. We met in November 2012, at our mutual friends’ house. They are both in our wedding party, as Maid of Honor and Head Groomsman. We met several times before we got together. I first thought James was a little shy but once we got to talking I was swept away by his charm. James thought Tahlia was beautiful and had a captivating smile and couldn’t wait to get to know her.
Q. When and how did the proposal take place and how did you feel?
A. On holidays in the South Island of New Zealand, James popped the question at sunrise in Milford Sound. Because he’d got me out of bed I was still in my pajamas! I was ecstatic and couldn’t wait to tell my mum but because of the time difference I had to wait a few hours! James was relieved it had all gone well and I’d said yes.
Q. Where are you going on your honeymoon?
A. No honeymoon planned at this stage.
Q. What are your future plans together (e.g. buying a house/starting a family)

The Cape Kitchen Wedding – Dale & Jordan

Dale and Jordon’s big day was held at the cape kitchen wedding venue on Phillip Island.  Although the weather didn’t do its part, Dale and Jordan and their guests appeared to have a fabulous time.  Here are some words from the bride and groom about their wedding day, their past and their hopes for their future together.

Q. When and how did you meet? And what were your first thoughts?
A. Dale and I are high school sweet hearts, meeting when we were 14 years old at a mutual friends party. We instantly connected, and have been pretty much inseparable ever since. We have been through so much together in the last 12 years, and it has made us stronger than ever. We often laugh saying we have been together for so long that we don’t actually remember a life without each other in it.
Q. When and how did the proposal take place and how did you feel?
A. Dale surprised me with a weekend away, and all he told me was to pack my bags with something nice to wear to go out in, my bathers and my gym gear. Needless to say I was very confused with the three different instructions as I could not figure out if we were going camping, to the hot springs, to the city or somewhere completely different!
We ended up driving to the Langham in Melbourne’s CBD (a hotel I had always wanted to go to), with an amazing corner Club King room with a river view. I was so overwhelmed with excitement!
We spent the afternoon drinking cocktails and chatting, and then got ready to go out for another surprise. Once I was ready, Dale asked me to close my eyes, got on one knee and proposed to me over looking the beautiful city lights and Yarra River. It was the best moment of my life!
Q. Where are you going on your honeymoon?
A. We haven’t booked our honeymoon yet, but are hoping to go to America in our winter next year. It is somewhere we have both always wanted to go and see, so it was a pretty easy decision.
Q. What are your future plans together (e.g. buying a house/starting a family)
A. We have been living in our own home for nearly three years now, so we are looking forward to starting a family in our future as Mr and Mrs Harvey.
Q. Where is your ceremony and reception being held and why did you choose these venues?
A. The ceremony and reception is being held at ‘The Cape Kitchen‘ in Phillip Island.
We had always wanted to get married on the beach, and Phillip Island is like a second home to us. We have been holidaying there every Summer since we can remember, and my parents recently retired down there, with Dale’s planning on making the move there in the close future.
We chose The Cape Kitchen as a wedding on the beach would not have been easy to access for our grandparents and older relatives, and the view from the clifftop is the next best thing.
The decor and over all feel at The Cape Kitchen also fitted our vision for our wedding perfectly, and no where could compete with the breath taking views.
Q. What does your wedding dress look like? Please give a detailed description and also include any accessories including jewellery and shoes.
A. My wedding dress is the ‘Lottie’ dress from the Couture Collection by Melbourne designer Jane Hill. This dress had been my dream dress for many years, and I feel so lucky to have been able to wear it on our special day. It is a stunning backless dress with oyster silk underlay and white lace detailing.
I was honored to wear the pearls my Nana wore on her wedding day as a young woman many years ago, along with my engagement ring, and as my ‘something old’ I wore a beautiful pair of Mimco earrings that I got given for as a bridesmaid gift from one of my bridesmaids own wedding.
Q. Do you have a Theme or style to your wedding? And if so, what is it?
A. Sam Bennett from ‘The Little Sparrow Events‘ helped us create our vision of a Rustic Romantic/Cocktail style. We wanted a really natural, soft look with wooden logs, twine balls, fairy lights and so on. She was so supportive and organised through the whole lead up.
Q. Hair & Makeup – please describe what your hair and makeup is like and who the suppliers are.
A. The beautiful Samantha, owner of Home of Hair By Sam Marsden, created long, beachy waves for the special day. The talented Adele, owner of Adele Sarah Beauty, will by doing a bronzed, natural look with the make up.
Q. Who is the person conducting your service? (celebrant, minister, priest etc).
A. Paw Lewis, from Phillip Island Ceremonies
Q. Florist – what are your flowers like & who is the supplier?
A. Our florist is Bec Newman, owner of the ‘Little Flower Shed’. I wanted a mix of white seasonal flowers, with lots of greenery, and a big, unstructured bouquet. Bec really helped me achieve the perfect look to complement the styling of the room.
Along with the bouquet I have a flower crown, along with gyp bouquets for the bridesmaids, and gyp pinned through the flower girl, and bridesmaids hair.
There are rio stands with flowers and greenery to go alongside the DJ, table pieces, and the most incredible arbour filled with flowers for the ceremony outside.
Q. Wedding Favours & Cake – what are they like and who is the supplier?
A. My amazing , supportive wedding planner/mum is the one who created the wedding favours – They are little natural looking ‘love’ boxes filled with gourmet chocoltates. Our cake is a three tier naked cake, made by Melva (sourced through Bec Newman from the Little Flower Shed), decorated with flowers wrapping around the cake, and on a wooden log board.
Q. Transport – what mode of transport did you choose and who was the supplier?
A. The boys are going in black Classic 57 Chev’s and the girls in a white Jaguar.
Q. Food & Drink – what are they like and who is the supplier if not venue?
A. We are having a cocktail themed wedding, with the menu created and supplied from The Cape Kitchen. We are having a mixture of Purple Hen wine’s, along with plenty of beer and Espresso Martini’s.
